Northern Metalic Sales is a Canadian Independent Wholesale Industrial Distributor based in Grande Prairie, AB with operations across Alberta & BC.
Northern Metalic Sales is part of a larger, diverse group of companies with interests in wholesale distribution, oilfield service & supply, lubricants distribution, land and real estate development, rail construction & transload, and finance.
Overview:
We are currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Buyer in the Grande Prairie/Clairmont, AB area.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with set up of category management framework to advance purchasing strategy.
- Treat your category as a strategic business unit and think outside the box to grow profitability.
- Depending on previous experience, this role could result in leading the category or acting as category support. There is opportunity for advancement for the right candidate.
- Work as part of a category team to collate and analyze data, set objectives and devise strategies to advance each category as a functional business unit within the organization. This includes forecasting, purchasing, making retail suggestions and assisting with marketing initiatives for your category.
- Purchasing and sourcing of product to meet customer requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
- Expediting, second sourcing and volume negotiations.
- Work to improve inventory management to reduce overstock and obsolescence.
- Work closely with suppliers and customer service team to build relationships and resolve issues. Ongoing supplier evaluation and relationship maintenance.
- Review open orders, back-order, and lost sales reports for timely adjustment of inventory.

- Finger dexterity (Data Entry)
Experience:
- Supply chain experience necessary; category management experience preferred.
- Ability to learn around new product categories.
- Industrial supply or distributor model supply experience preferred.
- Experienced working with and evaluating performance of suppliers.
- Excellent internal and external customer service.
- Knowledge of MS Office including Excel.
- ERP Experience and the ability to learn a new ERP system.
- Logistics, import/export experience is useful but not required.
